Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, worldwide Famous Indian Spiritual Guru, is the founder of Art of Living Foundation and is often revered as Guruji or Sri Sri. The purpose of the Art of Living Foundation, which is a volunteer-based NGO, is to contribute social support to the people. He also laid the foundation of an NGO known as the International Association for Human Values in Geneva in the year 1997 which carries the objective of establishing shared global values by engaging in relief works and rural development. Born in Papanasam, Tamil Nadu on 13 May 1956 to the family of Visalakshi Ratnam and R. S. Venkat Ratnam, Ravi Shankar chose academic pursuit starting from an Indian Vedic scholar, Sudhakar Chaturvedi who was known for being a close associate to Mahatma Gandhi. He did his graduation from St Joseph’s College of Bangalore University. His second teacher was Maharishi Mahesh Yogi with whom Ravi Shankar traveled delivering speeches, arranging conferences on Vedic science, and laid the foundation of Ayurveda and Transcendental Meditation centers. He is also said to have started off experiential courses in spirituality around the world. SudarshanKriya, of which Ravi Shankar says his rhythmic breathing practice, dwelled in him like an inspirational poem when he was observing silence for the period of ten days on the banks of the Bhadra River. He is the promoter of spirituality and rhythmic breathing practice called SudarshanKriya. Circulation of his humanitarian works is worldwide, including countries like Pakistan, Iraq, and Colombia, and in parts of India like Kashmir and northeast India. He also launched a prison program to which people facing jail terms can be reintegrated to society. Ravi Shankar is the recipient of Padma Vibhushan given to him in 2016. Besides, he has earned many awards and recognition, including Orden de la Democracia Simón Bolívar, the highest civilian award of Colombia.
