Anand tied the knot with Aruna in the year 1996. The couple has a son named Akhil. The tournament of 2007 also witnessed Anand being the one and only player who emerged as an unbeatable player. In the world chess championship tournament held in 2010, Anand concluded the game by defending the title against Bulgarian chess grandmaster, VeselinAleksandrovTopalov. He was the winner of the World Rapid Chess Championship in 2003 and 2017. Anand was conferred to the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 1991–92, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2007, the only sportsperson to have received the honor.
