Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Cabinet Minister is a noted Indian politician. He was born on 19 December 1954 to the family of Om Prakash Goel and SnehLata. A leader from BJP, Harsh Vardhan has been appointed as the Union Minister for Science & Technology. He is also an incumbent minister at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) the Ministry Of Earth Science in the government led by BJP. As a politician, he represents the electoral constituency of Chandni Chowk in Delhi as an MP/Member of Parliament. During assembly election held in the year 2013, he was the CM candidate for the BJP. Harsh Vardhan, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha did his schooling from Anglo Sanskrit Victoria Jubilee Senior Secondary School based in Delhi’s Daryaganj in 1971. His academic qualification includes Bachelor Of Medicine, Bachelor Of Surgery, and Master Of Surgery in Otorhinolaryngology. Since his childhood, he has been a member of RSS/Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Political accomplishments of Harsh Vardhan include – State Minister of Health and Minister of Law for Delhi, state Minister of Education in 1996, and Minister of Health and Family Welfare.
As a state minister of health, his leadership monitored the successful implementation of Pulse Polio Programme involving mass-scale immunization of 1 million 3-years old children. To curb smoking menace in public places, Delhi Prohibition of Smoking and Non-Smokers Health Protection Act was approved under his tenure in 1997 that further resulted in prohibition of sale of smoking substances to minors below 18 years of age, besides eradicating the menace of smoking at public places across Delhi. During Lok Sabha election held in the year 2014, he contested from his Delhi constituency of Chandi Chowk against Kapil Sibal, the Union Cabinet Minister of Law and Justice of the Indian National Congress. He is the recipient of Director-General’s Polio Eradication Champion Award Commendation Medal awarded to him by WHO/World Health Organization. Harsh Vardhan is married to Nutan. The couple has two sons and one daughter.
